Much progress has been made in HIV Treatment and Prevention using a platform of more effective and more user-friendly medications. One of the most recent innovations has been the use of injectable medications that provide options for people who are trying to prevent HIV and for those who are living with HIV.
Injectable medications for HIV treatment include stand-alone injections every two months and some injections that require the use of oral medications in addition to the injections. These medications have been proven to be as effective as oral medications for HIV treatment and provide patients with new and innovative treatment options.
In the area of HIV Prevention, also known as PrEP, there are now two stand-alone injectable medications. These medications are taken every two months or every six months depending on the patient’s choice and are most effective in preventing HIV infection. These options, Apretude and Yeztrugo, are now available in addition to the oral PrEP medications Truvada and Descovy.
