Timothy Ray Brown, often known as the Berlin Patient, has died of complications related to a recurrence of the leukemia that originally led him to the treatment (in Berlin) that eventually cured him of HIV. Mr. Brown has participated in research and has been a spokesperson for HIV “cure research” since his own remarkable cure was announced in 2008. Mr. Brown will be remembered as a gentle soul who cared for others above self. He often remarked, “I don’t want to be the only one.”
