Science

Our approach to ending this epidemic is founded on principals of science, including harm reduction, and proven public health strategies.

Stigma

Stigma, shame, and homophobia are the #1 drivers of the epidemic, especially in the South.

Gospel

We were formed and founded upon the work and words of Jesus. it is Jesus who calls on us to care for the sick (Matt. 25: 31-45).

Hope

Samaritan Ministry provides a foundation of love and support that offers hope for a bright and healthy future.

Our Mission:

Our church should be a beacon of light and hope, by way of Christ, for anyone who suffers from or has family or friends who suffer from this disease.

Through Christ, we are also working to bring an end to this epidemic with HIV testing and prevention education. We recognize the importance of our engagement with the concurrent epidemics of Hepatitis C and the Opioid Crisis as they negatively impact the ongoing efforts to eliminate new HIV cases in our community.

About Us

Samaritan Ministry is a faith-based AIDS Service Organization that was founded in 1996. Wayne Smith is the Director of this ministry, which operates under the auspices of Central Baptist Church of Bearden in Knoxville, Tennessee. Samaritan Ministry is supported through a network of religious, secular not-for-profit, and governmental entities.
